Marlene Frazier – Artist Statement
Though I have always loved taking pictures, my photography career started out somewhat by accident. The death of my father brought me to my knees for many months. In the struggle to deal with my grief, photography became a way for me to express my feelings in a more constructive and creative way. It offered me a few spare moments to escape and allow my emotions to surface. It was the strength of these emotions that created my best selling work entitled “Never Forgotten”.
I am inspired and motivated by my daily surroundings and experiences. It is the beauty of life, death, time, and space that influences me to capture something that would otherwise be looked at as ordinary. I see beauty everywhere - a cuddly critter, an abandoned barn, magnificent colors of rust on a piece of metal - anything that brings forth a sense of emotion. The world around us offers an unlimited array of visually stimulating opportunities, and that is my canvas! I feel that to limit myself to one genre would only stifle my imagination, hence the name Dreams, Memories, and Visions Photography (DMVphotos).
The line between literal and figurative emotion is a thin one, but if one can find in my body of work a quick flash of enlightenment, or a momentary feeling of peace then I have been successful in my quest.
Come explore with me objects and places that may seem very familiar. Watch and I will show you how the ordinary can become extraordinary. Welcome to my Dreams, Memories, and Visions.
